This lovely girl is Tasia's mother. She is also the mother of 4 other Pirouette Somalis who have earned the title of "Grand" - four blue boys who can be seen on my home page, along with their father, GC, RW Pirouette's Shadow Dancer. She is the first |
Fawn is the rarest of the four basic Somali colors. It is the more recessive of the two dilute colors (blue and fawn). Its rarity makes it a difficult color to work with - since it's unusual to get a fawn kitten in a litter, it's even more unusual to get one that meets all the requirements for type and color in the Somali standard. |
At left is Pirouette's Fawntasia at five months old. As you can see, she has lots of dark color and very distinct facial markings, which is what the standard calls for. At this stage, Tasia's color is warmer than many other fawns. The CFA Somali standard calls for the fawn's ground or undercoat color to be a "warm rose-beige" with cocoa-brown ticking. Tasia certainly has that and more. |
Here's Tasia at about one year old. Her color and type are very nice, but she doesn't have very much coat yet. |
Finally, here is Tasia at home, resting on her laurels. This picture was taken in natural light and probably shows her color best. Tasia's favorite game is fetch, but she will only play with very tiny sparkle balls - bring her the wrong toy, and forget it! |
The best thing of all with this wonderful girl is her incredible personality! She really enjoys playing with the judges when they bring out their toys, and she will give head butts to anyone she can reach. And - best of all - she tolerates her show bath better than any Somali I've had! |

Here's Tasia at almost 3 years old. This photo was taken two months before Tasia became "Grand Premier Pirouette's Fawntasia", CFA's first fawn female Somali to earn the title of Grand. Tasia is also the first Fawn female Somali to earn both the GRP title in CFA as well as the Supreme Grand Champion Alter title in TICA. Tasia was a bit slow to mature, but as you can see from this photo her color is so warm and dark, she looks almost red! According to several of the judges who helped Tasia earn her title, she has the best color of any fawn they have seen. Tasia also has wonderful ticking and warm coppery eye color that matches her coat. |

dilute (blue or fawn) Somali to earn the title of Distinguished Merit for her five Grand offspring. It will take a few more litters for Shadow, since males are required to sire 15 grands before earning the Distinguished Merit title. "Fawn Girl" has been spayed and is living in Mar Vista, California, with another Somali and a Birman. |
